In 2007 CooP-Africa started a bicycle project in Burkina Faso. Our partner organization AVO gives bicycles on credit. The bicycles are mainly used by women to make money, for example by selling peanuts, donuts and local-grown products at markets and in surrounding villages. The women pay the bicycle in installments. The payments allow AVO to purchase more bicycles for new groups. In this way, various groups of women could buy a bicycle recent years. However, these days the drought takes its toll in Burkina Faso. The women who currently pay off their bicycle, have difficulty to meet the deadlines to pay. Our partner organization has therefore adjusted a repayment schedule on an individual basis, with lower amounts and longer periods.
