4 students of the Delft University for Technology have designed a bicycle for African street vendors. In November 2009 they have researched the needs and demands of the bicycle users in Kisumu Kenya. A co-creation team was established of (mobile) street vendors, neighbourhood association, market vendors, VBBS, metalworkers, bicycle mechanics, representative of disabled people, etc, who are a sounding board for the students in the design process. A protoype was developed at the Technical University in Delft and tested and fine tuned by the co-creation team in Kisumu. The bicycle is produced in the Cycling Blue workshop in Kisumu, and is used in Bike4Work and Bike4Care projects.
• Supported by: DOEN Foundation

The students have kept a blog at: http://africanbicycledesign.wordpress.com/.
