There are no bicycle factories in East Africa. Bicycles are mostly imported from Asian countries. The poor quality of these bicycles and the high import tax has CooP-Africa encouraged to investigate whether it is possible to start bicycle production in East Africa. Both to create employment and also to bring affordable quality bicycles on the market. From 2013 the process of designing a bicycle frame and organising local production in Kenya and Uganda has started.
