On the 29th of September 2011 the Italian group La Stazione delle Biciclette organised an amazing bicycle event. With 25 teams of bicycle mechanics, they refurbished 23 second hand bicycles and sold them in a public auction. With this event, they raised funds for the Cycling out of Poverty project of the bicycle workshop in Burkina Faso. This workshop is run by our partner organisation AVO, and the goal is to make different types of bicycles (carts, tricycles, vending bicycles, etc.) available to small entrepreneurs to make a living from small business. The support by the Italian group enables AVO to make a number of models for showcasing what they can make to customers. For more information about this project click here.

We are very supportive of this initiative. This group makes second hand bicycles from Europe available to the European market, in stead of blindly shipping used bicycles to Africa. (read more) We hope this group has inspired other people to do the same!
