Cycling out of Poverty started the platform wiki-bike.com, in cooperation with Slimmer foundation and Ideal&co. Via this platform, people are invited to share ideas on bicycle designs with others, inspiring each other. Via wiki-bike.com people can send in ideas for the African Bicycle Design Contest 2010-2011. The aim of this contest is to co-create a bicycle that is tuned to the needs of African bicycle users and can be made locally from local available sustainable materials. On Tuesday 7 September wiki-bike.com won the second price in the Sustainable Tuesday competition in The Hague. The jury chose wiki-bike.com from the more than 400 entries, because it is a good example of co-creation in practise. “Participation is open for everyone who has ideas on bicycles, not only designers: ideas can be submitted as sketches, photos or even poems. With the feedback of other visitors of the website, ideas and designs can be improved. Co-creation stimulates innovation and enthuses others. It also utilises the potential of social media fully. The final result contributes to sustainable mobility in developing countries, and also contributes to the social aspect of sustainability. Ideas and designs for the African Bicycle Design Contest 2010-2011 can be submitted until 30 September 2010 via http://www.wiki-bike.com. Double click on the video to see how you can enter.
